So as many/all of you know Queezle's litter this past summer did not come to fruition and Poncho the stud is no longer fertile so I'm back to hunting (note: this post is basically me thinking aloud). There is a Poncho son that I absolutely adore and who has all his health clearances now, but the kicker is that there is some seizure risk on his dam's side and Queezle has some seizure risk close behind her. Seizures are bad, and a major problem in Tervs, so that means I really can't justify doing that cross. It kills me every time I see his picture though.

There are some Poncho nephews available, but the one who I like the most is in South Dakota (odds of shipping frozen semen from SD in the winter? zero) and hasn't had his eyes checked in a couple years, another has an aggressive temperament and no health clearances and the one most available I just don't like that much. As pretty as they are, I'm just not sure. I definitely want to come back to that lady's kennel/breeding in the future though, as I love a lot of her dogs. There just isn't anything quite perfect there right now.

So now I'm down to this boy  Stand By Me and this boy Kaos. Very different pedigrees, different styles, but I like both (a lot of Terv people are verrry racist when it comes to style/type, but I can appreciate most of the different looks. Some of them I would never want personally, but I'm willing to sacrifice type for soundness). The big question between them would be do I want a prettier head (Stand By Me, the first dog), or do I want darker eyes (Kaos, the second)?

SBM is closer in pedigree to Poncho, though I don't know a whole lot about his sire healthwise. His dam is a lovely bitch, structurally and mentally. Kaos is a dynamite working dog and I got to spend a lot of time with him and one of his sons this weekend. His son has a prettier head but lighter eyes and not as solid a temperament, and there is some potential for health risks behind his dam. The main risk with Kaos is missing teeth, though his one litter all has full dentition and the other the dam had missing teeth behind her. Teeth aren't a problem behind Queezle though, and missing teeth are not something that would affect the quality of life of the dog.

Do you see why I'm driving myself nuts over this? One of my main concerns is I don't want to piss off Poncho's breeder, because I really like her dogs and will come back to her stuff someday. Kaos and to some extent SBM are fairly different from her dogs, and I don't want her reaction to be that I am inconsistent and to then write me off. She has a reputation for being difficult to deal with, though I have had a very easy time working with her and found her very forthcoming with information, even negative. I just have a slight worry that if I go a different direction now I'll lose that. Of course, in the end Queezle's my bitch and it will be my litter, so my happiness with it comes first.

Alrighty, vent/whine done :) Back to studying for Spanish.

They're both beautiful dogs! Hopefully you can decide on one or another. Good luck. :)

Ugh, turns out Kaos has some seizure risk too. Pretty much everyone does! Obviously no dog is perfect, but... ugh. I wish I knew exactly when the Q is gonna come in heat so I'd know how much time I have to be indecisive!
